About 14 months ago I spent $1800 on a 17″ Hewlett-Packard laptop.
As luck would have it, 13 months after the purchase the LCD screen melted.
My problem = I only had a 12-Month Manufacture’s Warranty and it was expired.
Faced with $1000 repair bill I scrambled to find some way to fix my baby.
I vaguely remembered flipping through the little white book that came in the mail with my Visa debit card… something about a service the doubles your warranty on most purchases.
It turns out, because I bought the PC on my Visa debit card I automatically DOUBLED the warranty. My 12-month manufacture’s warranty became a 24-month Visa warranty.
The process was easy, I brought my laptop to a local repair shop and they fixed the screen. Then I took the receipt and sent it to Visa.
Visa paid 100% of the repair bill.
I saved $1000, hopefully someday this will come in handy for you.
In the past, you could design a website for Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) and know that about 98% of the people viewing your site were using that browser.
Times are changing… hackers are writing tons of spyware targeting IE and users are looking for alternative browsers. Now your job of making sure your website works with all browsers just got a little harder.
Did you know that Firefox is now up to 14% market share of all Internet users and as high as 33% market share for some “Technically Savvy” user groups?
How does your website look in AOL, Firefox, Netscape, Safari, and Opera browsers? How does it look on a Windows, Macs, Linux, BSD operating system? The possible combinations of different browsers and different OS grows exponentially.
What can change?
- Cells and Tables
- Font Type and Size
- Hyperlinks
- CSS Layout
- Colors
- Basically Everything!
So how do you test your website without installing every browser on multiple PC’s in your office?
I personally use a website that will help you see the following:
- Screen Shot Capture using Multiple Browsers
- Screen Shot Capture using Multiple OS
- Web based reports that you can share with others
- Free trial
